Hopi Ear Candling/Thermal-auricular Therapy - Safe For All Ages, An Alternative To Syringing

What is Hopi Ear Candling?

Ear candling, sometimes called Thermal-aricular Therapy or Ear Coning involves the use of a flax tube impregnated with beeswax, honey and often essential oils, referred to as a candle.

The ear candle (flax tube) is painlessly inserted into the outer ear canal whilst the fully clothed client lays comfortably on their side, with their head supported by a pillow.  The ear candle is then lit (at the opposite end) and very gently turned to create a seal.

The candle then creates a pleasant crackling sound and a comfortable warm feeling in the outer ear canal.  After about 15 minutes the ear candle is carefully and safely removed and extinguished in a bowl of water.  The process is then repeated on the other ear, after extinguishing, the beeswax residue left in the candle is examined, here Lisa will be able to get a rough idea of the severity of disruption to the ear, nose or throat.

This is followed by a period of relaxation, and if recommended, Lisa will carry out an Acu-pressure facial massage concentrating on the sinus areas.

How does Hopi Ear Candling work?

Firstly, the facts, Hopi Ear Candling does NOT create suction, or pull ear wax or debris out of the ear.  If this were true the whole concept of ear candling would be as dangerous and uncomfortable as syringing.

Due to the lack of funds there have been NO clinical studies carried out to prove how Ear Candling works, but the fact remains (experienced by Lisa's personal use during a sinus infection and hayfever, and many years of case studies done on non-bias volunteers) that ear candling does have a positive affect on the ears, nose and throat .

One theory believed, is that the gentle warmth and penetration of the very light smoke produced during the burning of the candle, slightly resonates (vibrates) the ear drum, encouraging a change in the energy pathways (the same energy pathways that are utilised in Acu-puncture, Daoyin Tao, Reiki and Reflexology) creating balance and harmony with-in the unreachable inner ear and sinus cavities.   Some clients may experience a slight headache or light popping in the ears after treatment, this in normal and will ease with-in a few hours. (see aftercare advice)

Hopi ear candling is Suitable for children, those that wear hearing aids (these will be removed during the treatment) and is a good alternative for people who have found syringing uncomfortable or in-effective.

Hopi ear candles is a relaxing and pain free experience.  As well as reducing pressure in the ears and sinuses the treatment can induce a state of calm, beneficial to those that suffer from tinnitus, vertigo, headaches and migraines.

Hopi ear candles should not be used during an ear infection, perforated ear drums, inflammation where there has been any recent ear surgery, or those with ear grommets or tubes or where the sufferer has allergies to beeswax or honey.

A Hopi Ear Candling treatment will last approximately 30 minutes.

A Hopi Ear Candling treatment and Acu-pressure Facial Massage will last 45 minutes.
