Reflexology - The Benifits, Reflexology Can Help Relax & Relieve Tension, Improve Mood & Create A Sense Of Well-being. Reflexology Is Often Used Alongside Conventional Care In Hospices, Hospitals And Other Healthcare Settings, To Help Support Patients

Reflexology - Performed on the feet, yet does not tickle

Reflexology can help to relieve anxiety and tension, encourage relaxation, improve mood and aid sleep.

Reflexology - what is it?

Reflexology is based on the principle that reflex zones on the feet are linked by energy pathways to corresponding parts of the body.

Reflexology can also be used preventively to keep the body in good working order as it calms the whole person, mind, body and spirit, inducing a state of balance and harmony.

Reflexology - how does it work?

During a reflexology treatment nerve endings (there are 70,000 on the sole of each foot) are stimulated using a variety of techniques. Lisa will apply varying degrees of pressure to the precise reflex points with the tips of the thumb, or the fingers.  The pressure applied is firm but not heavy, and in different parts of the feet different sensations will be felt by the person receiving the treatment.

The different feelings you may experienced can be interpreted by Lisa to indicate which parts of the body are working well and which are not.  Where there is illness or discomfort the energy channels become blocked and the flow of energy disturbed.  Lisa will choose to work in either a clockwise (stimulating) or anti-clockwise (sedative) manor aiming to balance each area of the body by encouraging stagnant and trapped energy to restore to it's natural flow, which in turn promotes correct body function.

Areas where more discomfort is felt indicate that the corresponding part of the body is more out of balance than those where less discomfort is experienced. Relief can be almost immediate, but long standing conditions may take some time to heal, since the healing begins on a deep level.

Reflexology during pregnancy

Reflexology during pregnancy is fast becoming very popular, more and more NHS and private midwives are recognising the benefits of reflexology both, during pregnancy, labour and post-natally. Utilising only the safe areas to work on is of up-most importance at any stage of pregnancy, although it is NOT proven that any complementary therapy can cause a miscarriage, Lisa will not take the risk and will NOT treat an expectant mother until her 3rd trimester.  Therefore, Lisa asks that if you are trying to conceive then you let her know, at which point she will air on the side of caution and treat you as if you were all ready pregnant.

Maternity Reflexology is the use of specific techniques using fingers and thumbs on the feet, aiming to nurture both mother (and baby) on a physical, emotional and spiritual level – pre-conceptually, throughout pregnancy, the birth itself and during the post-natal period.

Reflexology - How can it assist during pregnancy?

Reflexology is safe and supportive therapy. During pregnancy, a woman's body goes through drastic physical changes, including abundant emotional and hormonal changes.

Reflexology contributes to the health of the mother and baby, a relaxed and calm mother helps keep baby calm too.

Due to lack of research we can NOT claim that Reflexology can induce labour, reduce labour time, pain or promote a quick recovery from caesareans, however, Reflexology can help you relax and calm you during your recovery.

A treatment will last 1 hour and includes massage up to the knee.

Reflexology - During your treatment.

Everything you need to fully relax and enjoy your treatment will be provide for by Lisa.  You will remain clothed (apart from your feet and lower legs) be reclined on the couch and offered a blanket.

For hygiene reasons Lisa has a wash basin and soap for her hands and always wears an appropriate tunic and trousers, and disposable paper towel is used for each of you to lay on during your treatment.
